Empty Net by Toni Aleo (Assassins #3)

Published September 27, 2012 by crysbookreviews

Definition of an Empty Net: When a team pulls the goalie for an extra attacker, desperately seeking a goal.

Audrey Parker was in a horrible place.
She hated her job, her sister was getting married and moving out, but worst of all, she was in love with a total jerk. No matter what she did, every guy she met hurt her. All she wanted was her happily ever after. Her Prince Charming. Her Lucas Brooks! She didn’t know how to change her life but she knew she needed too.
Feeling like she was about to hit rock bottom, Audrey wakes up next to Tate Odder.

Tate Odder had lost everything.
After being brought up from the Assassins’ farm team, the Florida Rays to the Nashville Assassins, Tate hopes he’ll forget everything he has lost. He doesn’t. Each day gets harder to live in a place he doesn’t know. Even being the first rookie goalie to shut out an opposing team three times during the Lord Stanley Cup Finals, he still felt empty. With the loss of his parents and sister still heavy on his heart, Tate isn’t sure how to live like everything is okay.

But when he wakes up beside Audrey Parker, things start to change. She turns his life upside down with her kooky sense of humor and her bright clothing. She is intelligent and beautiful, and for once, he doesn’t feel empty.
Will Audrey be the person to fill the holes in Tate’s heart, making him whole again?
Or will another player ruin everything, leaving him feeling forever like an empty net? From Goodreads.

Oh my god, she did it again!!! There isn’t a book of Toni’s that I haven’t fallen in love with. I am so happy I gave her books a chance. This time around it was Tate and Audrey’s story. Now I loved Audrey in the last book and I thought Tate sounded adorable. I also wanted to smack the crap out of her for dating and putting up with Levi. She is way, way too good for him.

Luckily she got drunk and hooked up with Tate. Of course, she was stupid and decided to leave the next morning with out exchanging any kind of info. She eventually figures out who he is. I mean it was bound to happen since Tate is Lucas’ best friend. It also didn’t help that he was also her neighbor!

Now do you see why I love Toni? Her books are so amazing that they are, as of right now, the only adult books I have reviewed on my blog. But I felt that everyone should go out and buy all 3 books right now. There was so much to their relationship, her issue with his age, his family, her background, her physical and emotional issues. I was sooo happy that eventually everything came out and they were in a happy committed relationship together.

Eventually Audrey was given AMAZING news and when she got home to get ready to tell Tate about it, she ran into Levi and things went downhill from there. I won’t give anything away about what happens between the 3 of them because it was crazy horrible and awesome all at the same time.

I can’t wait for the 4th book in the series just so I can reread these books.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

“Bit bloody flowery, isn’t it?” He looked down into her eyes, and she was startled again by just how brilliant his gaze was. The heat from his hands on the small of her back sent warm shivers up her spine, so she arched it just a little further. The movement brought her closer to his chest, and he grinned at her, far too triumphant for her liking, before spinning the two of them again. Michaela felt the looks she was getting from the female guests but shrugged them off.” page 121.

Trying to Score by Toni Aleo (Assassins #2)

Trying to Score by Toni Aleo (Assassins #2)

Fallon Parker’s dream was to have her family’s wine company at the top of all wine magazines and to have a cellar of her own. After graduating from college, she has worked hard to make that dream a reality, even if that meant having a nonexistent love life. She had her chance at love and that was a bust, so she put everything into the wine company. After becoming the official sponsor of the Nashville Assassins, Fallon finally feels like everything is falling in place, that is until Lucas Brooks comes back into her life.

Lucas Brooks hates his life. He is lonely, he is sober, and he is angry. On the ice, when he’s not in the sin bin, he the leading scorer in the NHL but off the ice, he is a mess. He threw away the most important person in his life, and has regretted it ever since but when Lucas sees Fallon again after being traded to the Assassins; he is bound and determined to get her back. Even if she wants nothing to do with him.

The sexual tension between Fallon and Lucas is electrifying as Lucas tries to convince Fallon that he is a changed man. Fallon tries to resist Lucas, but it is so hard when all her body wants is his. But when Lucas finds out that Fallon has been keeping a huge secret from him, the game he is playing stops and penalties are called.

With new rules and new players on the ice, will Fallon and Lucas be able to work out their differences and work as a team or will they be left trying to score alone. From Goodreads.

Once again, I loved Toni Aleo’s Assassins series. This book made me cry and laugh and sometimes both at the same time. Fallon made me angry and Lucas made me want to smack my husband because he was a guy. Of course I didn’t but I thought about it.

I couldn’t believe the secret that Fallon kept from Lucas, but good thing she did. He was a disaster at the time when really she needed him the most. He probably shouldn’t have done what he did at the same time. I do have to admit some of the things he did to get Fallon back were so cute especially the post-its.

I loved how after Lucas found out Fallon’s secret, he stepped up. Honestly I would have had the same fear that she had, I would have totally thought that he would have loved him more and left me alone. What I wanted her to do was open up to someone, anyone. Her sister Audrey has been there since Fallon and Lucas broke up, so she should have talked to her about all her fears and hopes and everything in between.

Of course at the time Audrey was being weird and she didn’t know what was going on until later in the book. And I felt so bad for Audrey at the time (luckily Empty Net comes out next week and it is her book) and wanted her to find someone that will love her for being awesome.

I love this series almost as much as I love the Tiger’s Saga by Colleen Houck. I would have to say this is my new favorite series of Adult books.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Why am I waiting for it?

I loved the first two books in the series and I can’t wait to find out if Audrey gets the happily ever after that she deserves since she helped her sister raise her nephew when she was only 20. I don’t know much about Tate but he seemed like a great kid in the last book, and I want him to be perfect for her. I know I usually do YA but Toni has me hooked with her books. Luckily according to Goodreads, this book comes out on September 5th.

Taking Shots by Toni Aleo (Assassins #1)

Taking Shots by Toni Aleo (Assassins #1)

Elli Fisher has never thought she was good enough. Let it be her job, her weight, her love life, nothing, she was convinced she couldn’t do anything right. She had walked through life for the past six years in a daze, never thinking that life could be good again after the abuse she endured from her ex boyfriend. She is lonely, sad, and depressed, that is until she meets Shea Adler. After doing a promotional shoot for the NHL team, the Nashville Assassins, she meets the hunky hockey player who shoots a puck, shattering her world.
Shea Adler was tired of the life he was living outside of the rink. The girls, the money blowing, the drinking, everything had to stop and it all did when he met Eleanor Fisher. He had never met anyone like her. She is feisty, witty, shy, and simply gorgeous. When he laid eyes on her, it was as if he was taking the hardest hit of his life into the boards, and he had to have her.
Elli is a little skeptical of Shea, but he knows that they were meant to be together, and he needed her in his life. But Elli just doesn’t understand what Shea could see in her. She is overweight, loud, and not even that pretty, so why would someone so gorgeous and so amazing want to be with her? It seemed that no matter how hard she tried to shake Shea off, he wasn’t going anywhere, and for the first time Elli didn’t feel alone.
But could Elli throw her insecurities out the window and love Shea with everything inside of her? Or will she let a past relationship, and her family ruin any chance of her being happy?

Would Elli miss her shot at love? From Goodreads

I normally just read YA or New Adult books but I have read a few Adult books. I don’t normally review them though. But I had to review Toni Aleo’s books, they were that amazing. The whole story about getting over your past was amazing. I loved all the characters in the book, Elli and Shea were so cute together when they were happy, Harper was hilarious, Grace is a great twin to Shea.

When we find out all the issues that Elli has been through, I honestly felt my heart break for her. Especially with what kind of mom she has, I couldn’t even picture how she could treat Elli that way. It didn’t help that Elli had issues from the last guy she dated before Shea. She had a few issues and a few more secrets that she never told him about, I couldn’t understand why she didn’t just tell him before he found out.

Of course Shea had his own issues. Especially before Elli, he liked women a lot and had a reputation for being with girls that didn’t look anything like Elli. Once again didn’t help with her issues but at least Harper there was at one time to freak out on one of the girls that said something rude to her.

I didn’t think I was going to like the book as much as I did but once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down, I wanted to know what happened. I was really glad I bought this book for my Nook.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.
